A few years back, I started at a new company to lead a team that operated in complex and dangerous environments.
I wasn’t there to be an expert. I was there to be a conduit for getting good results through a team of experts. To seek common ground in opposing views, and use that to weave sensible change. I didn’t show up with a new invention or a groundbreaking way to do things. I just helped frame the thinking, the discussion in reasonable ways so that everyone could feel it and start living it.
I’m still there and helping them get the right results while retaining the best team. We focus on a culture that is safe, ready, and works together. It’s a people thing.
